Every company has a set of goals that they strive to achieve. These goals are not a matter of set-and-forget. They are the framework to assign the company’s daily operations and provide a focal point for management and employees. So therein lies the question, how can you increase the efficiency of your workplace in achieving your company’s goals?
The answer is commitment!
Commitment is the driving force required to push your choices and goals into reality. Deciding to commit to your choices, however, is only the first step – then comes the action to turn those choices into a ticked box on the journey to your company’s success. A commitment without action has no impact. To create and grow a profitable company, you and your team must be willing to commit and put in the hard work.
Below are 6 tips to help inspire commitment to achievement in your workplace:
- Set achievable goals – Don’t set yourself up to fail by setting unrealistic goals for your company. Make sure to do your research on the growth of your industry, your competitors, and the trends in the market to determine an achievable goal to work towards. Setting a more realistic goal will improve the motivation of your team to achieve those goals that will determine your place in the market.
- Be specific – Ensure that you are specific when setting your goals. What do you want to achieve and when do you want to achieve it? If your goals are vague and you aren’t certain of what you want to achieve, the motivation and commitment to work towards those goals declines.
- Assign responsibility – Determine what tasks must be completed to achieve your company goals in advance so you can determine your company’s daily activities. Knowing what you’re doing and when it needs to be done will increase the level of commitment to each individual task, and hence the overall goal. Once you have determined the tasks required to achieve your company goals, assign the responsibility for the implementation to your employees or team members and the commitment to achieve those tasks will simultaneously transfer to them.
- Avoid micromanagement – Micromanaging your employees restrains their engagement, creativity, innovation, and ownership. When you micromanage them, you are taking away their control, and hence ownership over how their efforts impact the company. Instead of micromanaging your employees, give them the freedom to make their own decisions, delegate their time, and develop ownership over their efforts.
- Encourage open communication – If you want your employees to take responsibility for their position and tasks within your company, ensure that you allow them to share their opinions and ideas – give them an internal open line of communication. Employees are naturally more committed and engaged in their position when they feel that their voice is being heard and respected. Simply, if you want your employees to show commitment to your company, you need to equally show your commitment to them and their ideas.
- Understand what drives your employees – If you want to increase the commitment of your employees towards their work, you need to find out how invested they are and what they want to get out of their position within your company. Don’t be afraid to ask them how you can help to improve their commitment to the company.
The main lesson we can establish from all of the above is that clear goals and good leadership have a substantial impact on workplace commitment.
