Business and life is becoming more and more complex. With technology changes, global issues
threatening economies and mounting pressures from competitors, it is more important than ever that you understand how to reduce stress, stay focussed and streamline your business.
Rethinking
There is rarely only one way to achieve a particular goal or outcome. Whenever you are faced
with an obstacle to progress, step back and ask yourself, “Is there a better way?”. Be willing to consider changing the way things have always been done to adapt more innovative strategies to streamline your business. Those who adapt survive.
Re-evaluating
When you get new information, re-evaluate your current situation based on the way it is today
(not how you wish it was in the future). This is referred to by Jack Welch, former president of
General Electric, as the ‘reality principle’. This is a vital quality of leadership. Be honest with
your current situation and deal with the issues at hand. Then you can decide what you need to
do as the next steps to move forward.
Re-Organizing
Re-organizing is like a spring clean for your daily habits. This allows you to assess and develop
greater levels of output from the same quantity and quality inputs. In times like we are in now or massive change and turbulence, being agile is re-organizing your work, your schedule, your
teams, your structures and your processes is essential for survival and for success.
Re-Structuring
Restructuring allows you to channel more of your time, energy, money and resources into the
top 20% of activities that generate the most revenue and greatest profits.
Re-Engineering
Reengineering is one of the most powerful practices for simplifying your business and your
personal life. In this process your entire focus is on process improvement. Look for newer,
better, faster, cheaper and easier ways to accomplish the key tasks you need for specific
desired outcomes.
Reinventing
Recreating yourself and your business for where your customers are at today is vital to long-
term sustainability. Ask yourself – are our products, services and processes still delivering what our customers want and need? Is there a gap in the market we could be filling that wasn’t
previously there? If you were starting your business all over again, what would you focus on and
how would you do things differently?
Regaining Control
This requires you to set new goals and create new plans. You make new decisions and commit
yourself to the necessary actions required for success. This is where accountability is key to
hold you to your word to take charge of both your time and your business.
